Big Tent entertainment will begin this year with the opening of the 2013 Clark County Fair on Friday and end a week later on closing day, Friday, July 26.
“Usually we only had entertainment about four days of fair,” said Amanda Haddix, Clark County Fair public relations coordinator.
“This year, however, we are having entertainment every night except Tuesday.”
The 4-H awards will held in the Big Tent on Tuesday.
Haddix also said most Big Tent performances will include an opening act.
Entertainment will begin at 7 p.m. Friday with the band Top Shelf opening for Slowhand: An Eric Clapton tribute band scheduled to go on stage at 8:30 p.m.
“Saturday is usually when we have our big act,” said Haddix.
“This year it is country artist Jason Sturgeon.”
Sturgeon, an Indiana native, released his first CD in 2010 and has another CD titled “Cornfields and Coal” set to be released Aug. 27 of this year.
The single titled “Angel Eyes” from his new CD is available now on iTunes. The music video will debut on CMT this month.
“I love playing at fairs,” said Sturgeon. “I grew up in 4-H and going to the fair every summer. It’s a cool feel.”
Sturgeon, who writes his own songs, describes his music as old school country mixed with a bit of rock-and-roll.
His first album was written along with John Mellencamp’s drummer.
While visiting the Academy of Country Music recently, Sturgeon was selected as the July featured artist of the month for their charitable arm: Lifting Lives.
Through Lifting Lives, Sturgeon hopes to raise funds for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
“My mother and grandmother are both breast cancer survivors,” he said.
“It affects more than just the person going through the cancer. It touches the whole family and it has definitely touched me.”
Sturgeon will perform at 8:30 p.m., Saturday following opening act, Ryan Judy at 7 p.m.
